New PIP update for 440,000 people due an assessment or coming to end of payment award

Thousands of disabled children and young people across Scotland will receive a one-off payment for £251.50 later this year to help with higher heating bills during the 2024/25 winter season. The Scottish Government has now confirmed all the new payment rates for devolved benefits and payments, including the Child Winter Heating Payment.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has said it is “cooperating fully” with the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) while it conducts its independent investigation into ‘injustice caused by the maladministration’ of changes to the State Pension age, which has affected millions of WASPI women (Women Against State Pension Inequality). Pensions Minister Paul Maynard MP said the DWP will “carefully consider any findings that arise from the final report”.

The number of people claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is at an all-time high with the latest figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) showing there are now more than 3.4 million people over the age of 16 in receipt of the disability benefit. Adult Disability Payment (ADP) has replaced PIP for all new claimants in Scotland, but an online ‘PIP test’ could also help people north of the border decide whether they should make a claim for support worth up to £691 each month.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has responded to an online petition calling for the UK Government not to use new proposed powers to access bank accounts of people receiving State Pension payments. More than 12,600 people have signed the petition, however, the DWP’s written response clarifies the new measures and the types of State Pension bank accounts that may flag up for review due to potential fraud or error.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has confirmed that around 700,000 people on Tax Credits and no other qualifying benefit have started to receive the final cost of living payment of £299. Payments will be made automatically on weekdays between February 16 and 22, 2024.
