Netflix to Launch Pop-Up Restaurant in Los Angeles Featuring Curtis Stone, Rodney Scott and More Star Chefs

Despite major investments in housing and intervention programs and Mayor Karen Bass making the issue a centerpiece of her administration, the number of people experiencing homelessness in the Los Angeles area continues to skyrocket, with results of the most recent count released today showing a 9% year-over-year increase in homelessness in the county, and a 10% jump in the city.

Pat Saperstein Deputy Editor Ever since Netflix announced it would be opening a Los Angeles pop-up restaurant, the jokes have been flying on social media. Would the servers use an algorithm to ask, “Since you liked grilled cheese, can we suggest broccoli?” Would you be allowed to share food with your friends or would it be forbidden, like Netflix password-sharing? But at the preview night Tuesday for Netflix Bites at Short Stories Hotel on Fairfax, it was clear that the seriously delicious menu for the three-month pop-up, inspired by the streamer’s food programming, was no laughing matter. Imaginative cocktails from mixologists, like “Drink Masters” contestant Kate Gerwin,got guests in the mood with concoctions like the Oaxacan on Top of the World, while Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos mingled with the chefs. Netflix’s VP of Live Experiences Greg Lombardo welcomed guests, explaining, “We’re always focused on bringing our fans closer to the stories that they love. Netflix Bites affords us a unique opportunity to bridge food and entertainment in this incredible unique way.”

Again.Ryan Seacrest, 48, was named the new host of “Wheel of Fortune” on Tuesday. He will succeed Pat Sajak, who recently announced he’s retiring next year.This is not Seacrest’s first game show, nor, of course, his first TV hosting gig.The Georgia native left the University of Georgia when he was just 19 years old to pursue a broadcasting career — which has been prolific.Let’s look back on Seacrest’s life on air.In 1993, Seacrest started his career as the host of “Radical Outdoor Challenge” on ESPN, according to US Weekly.The adventure-themed program featured kids competing against each other in challenges at Camp Thunder in Georgia.A year later, the young Seacrest landed yet another hosting role, this time as the co-host of the kids’ show “Gladiators 2000,” a spinoff of “American Gladiators.” The star got a big break when he scored a slot as a DJ on Los Angeles radio station KYSR-FM in 1995, per US Weekly.He left his post there briefly for a job in San Francisco, according to The Los Angeles Times, but returned in 1997 to co-host a popular afternoon radio show with Lisa Foxx.“People have asked me, ‘Why do you still want to do radio if you have an opportunity to do [more] TV?’ ” Seacrest told the LA Times in 2002.

The “Supa Dupa Fly” producer was interviewed by Ray Daniels, CEO of Raydar, to talk about Timbaland’s over two decades of work producing in R&B, hip-hop and pop. Throughout his career, Timbaland has produced for artists like Aaliyah, Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, Rihanna, Brandy and Ludacris.

Kendall Jenner isn’t planning on adding her own kids to the Kardashian-Jenner empire anytime soon. Thania Garcia On the heels of announcing a string of back-to-back tour dates in Europe and the U.K., Fred Again has announced new dates in the United States. The trek will include a record-setting eight-night residency at Los Angeles’ Shrine Expo Hall that kicks off on Oct. 24 and ends on Nov. 2. He will additionally play Miami’s III Points festival on Oct. 20 and deliver three back-to-back sets in New York’s Forest Hills Stadium, another first for the venue. “We’ve had some of the most beautiful times ever here,” the electronic DJ and producer stated in the caption of his U.S. tour announcement on social media. “As I said in the last post I do jus [sic] wanna say that I do very much wanna come back to lots of other cities down the line. But right now for the type of things I want to try wit [sic] the show and musically it made most sense to set up in one venue for more shows rather than moving about.”

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter AGBO, an entertainment company founded by directors Anthony and Joe Russo, is partnering with Slamdance to establish a showcase for aspiring filmmakers. The summer showcase, held in downtown Los Angeles this August, will include programs dedicated to digital, interactive and gaming work, stand-up comedy, screenplay workshops and short films. “Slamdance has been a wonderful partner and we are happy to be expanding our relationship to our Downtown LA campus. Thania Garcia Latin Grammy-nominated rapper Eladio Carrión is adding a second leg to his “Sauce USA Tour,” Variety can exclusively reveal. After completely selling out the first leg, Carrión’s 16-city lineup now includes its first stops in New York’s MSG Theater and Los Angeles’ Hollywood Palladium. Carrión is set to deliver performances of his firey rap and urbano hits, namely those coming off his latest “3MEN2 KBRN” album, which included features from influential hip-hop titans like Future, Lil Wayne, Myke Towers, 50 Cent, Quavo and many more. With a start date of Oct. 7 in Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom, part two of the “Sauce USA Tour” will see support from Venezuelan rapper Big Soto as the opening act. The first leg of the tour was announced last December, with a start date of May 5 in Texas.
