Netflix's 'Mank' tops 78th Golden Globe Award nominations

Netflix said Thursday that it is making Aaron Sorkin’s Oscar-buzzed movie The Trial of the Chicago 7 available for free on for 48 hours this week to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the verdict in the trial at the center of the film. The news comes as Chicago 7 has been building momentum this awards season with five Golden Globe nominations, three SAG Awards noms and named one of AFI’s 10 best films of the year.

Women filmmakers are finally getting some real representation in awards season.

This year’s Golden Globes took a leap forward in representation terms with women landing three of the five nods in its Best Director Motion Picture field.

Mank, leads with six nominations, while Aaron Sorkin's The Trial of the Chicago 7 follows with five nods. Florian Zeller's The Father, Chloé Zhao's Nomadland, and Emerald Fennell's Promising Young Woman follow with four nominations each.
