Royal Blood have spoken to NME at Download Festival 2024 and discussed what it was like to revisit their self-titled debut 10 years on, as well as reflecting on their time on the road with Queens Of The Stone Age.The duo – comprised of frontman and bassist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher – caught up with NME at this year’s edition of the festival, shortly before they took to the main stage for a career-spanning set.Not only did the slot mark their first time back at the festival in a decade, it also came as the two are ready to play some intimate London shows, celebrating the 10th anniversary of their self-titled debut album.In the conversation, the duo told NME about what it was like to look back at their debut album this far down the line, and how they perceive it now compared to their latest release, 2023’s ‘Back To The Water Below’. A dad who was seriously hurt in a motorbike crash - before losing his young daughter just years later - has spoken of his heartbreak. Geoff Sackville-Wiggins was left in a coma after his bike was hit by a car in a horror crash in 2009.
The former fire officer was 33 at the time. The now 48-year-old was with his stepdaughter when the smash happened in the Carnforth area of Lancashire. The dad suffered a brain injury, while his stepdaughter sustained a knee injury.
Due to the severity of his injuries, Geoff lost his job as a firefighter, but went on to secure a place at university where he was training to become a counsellor around 10 years later.

Sadly, he had to give it up during his final year after one of his twin daughters was diagnosed with a rare terminal liver cancer aged just 21. She tragically died two years later in 2020.
She suffered from a rare condition called fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma. The illness affects one in every five million people and there are just 200 people worldwide who are diagnosed with it.
Geoff, from the Warton area of Lancashire, said: "In the years since my injury, I've gone through a lot of ups and downs. In particular, losing my daughter to cancer was nothing short of traumatic and something I don't think I'll ever get over.
"What made it worse was, despite the amazing support I had from family, my social circle got smaller after the accident. It was incredibly difficult to come to terms with. This wasn't helped by the fact I lost my job. Prior to then, I hadn't had more than a couple of weeks off work so I struggled without having work to go to."
