Chelsea icon John Obi Mikel has revealed Manchester United's legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson has finally forgiven him for an infamous transfer saga 18 years ago.
United felt they had wrapped up the signing of Ivorian Mikel when he was 18 and the midfielder was even pictured in a United shirt in 2005. However, little did the Reds know that after Mikel had signed a pre-contract agreement with the club, Chelsea had swooped in, sent him to school in Norway and was planning a mission to bring him to London under United's noses.
Mikel later explained to Ferguson that he had mistakenly agreed to join United and that he would ultimately wish to join Chelsea instead. In 2006, the midfielder did just that which stoked fury with the Scot who branded the club a 'disgrace'.

"He mentioned it [the saga] a couple of times [during his career], it was like: 'You were the one that got away aren't you?' But he's a lovely, lovely man and at 82 years old, he's still strong.
"I told him: 'We want to have you here as much as we can, for as long as we can.' And he's like: 'Listen, you got away but you had an amazing career with Chelsea, so I wouldn't say anything wrong about that, but I definitely forgive you now.'"
