When it comes to migraines, most of us think of intense headaches that can cause pain and throbbing. But migraines can be so much more than that – with some sufferers even needing hospital treatment for the debilitating disease.
Matthew Wise has lived with migraines for as long as he can remember, initially believing his symptoms were something everyone experienced.
The now 52-year-old could spend up to a week in agonising pain and would become extremely irritable. Matthew, who lives in Wythenshawe, was rushed to hospital and had several doctors visit his home before he eventually went to a GP for help.

But he was only offered painkillers after being officially diagnosed – and after seeing how they previously affected a family member, he was reluctant to take them.
He endured the pain for five more years until he was finally offered Zomig at the age of 20, a medication for those who suffer from migraines.
The treatment worked immediately and changed Matthew’s life, seeing his migraines disappear within just an hour of taking a tablet.
Matthew has now revealed some of his strange migraine symptoms – including becoming hyper and talkative.
The software developer told the Manchester Evening News: "Pain is a large part of it, but for me it’s movement. If I move my head, it’s as if my head is about to explode.
"Your personality changes and afterwards you actually remember very little of the experience. For me, I often get ‘ratty’ before I know I’m getting a migraine.
