A petition to tackle youth violence backed by a mother whose autistic daughter was beaten unconscious in a Glasgow park will go before Parliament.
Angela Jarvis' 12-year-old daughter, Abbie, was left in hospital for two days after she was allegedly lured to a park in Drumchapel and set upon by another girl as a gang of around 10 other youths filmed the attack on their phones.
In the wake of her daughter's attack, the mum-of-four threw support behind a petition, now known as 'Abbie's petition', urging the Scottish Government to address the disturbing culture of youth violence in Scotland.
Angela, from Drumchapel, said she broke down in tears after learning the campaign has been accepted for consideration by the Scottish Parliament.
The 43-year-old told the Record: "There were tears coming from my eyes when I got the news. I hope the committee can look at the petition with their hearts and not just their eyes.
"Violence is taking place on our streets. Families are being left to pick up the pieces.
"I feel like my voice is being heard and we are being listened to for the first time."
Community campaigner Alex O'Kane, who originally set up the petition has now re-named it after Abbie.
He said: "We want this petition to have a name and a face. Abbie is now the name and face of this petition.
"She is a real, first hand victim of youth violence. She is a perfect example of what this petition is trying to achieve.
"The current system to tackle bullying is not working. There has to be a perception of consequences to prevent and deter children from carrying out violence."
The pair want to see better bullying interventions put in place in schools, social care facilities and on the streets to prevent violent acts from taking place.

The Invisible Man (2020) for a review that he posted about the film more than two years ago.The Scottish comedian, whose real name is Brian Limmond, wrote on Twitter in June 2020 that he initially enjoyed the horror film before finding that it had too many “plot holes”.Now, the film’s director Leigh Whannell has resurfaced Limmy’s comments. “One of my followers just reminded me of the time this guy started critiquing Invisible Man and I was wondering if any of my UK friends could review his work for me,” he wrote on Twitter in a since-deleted tweet seen by indy100.After one of his followers replied, “who is he?” Whannell added: “I don’t know but he started shitting on the film and I was like ‘hey there, filmmaker here’ and he got a bit sheepish and was like ‘sorry, I didn’t think you’d see that’ and I was like ‘it’s the Internet cocksnot, everyone can see it’.”Me and @Lynn_McGoo watched The Invisible Man last night.I really liked it at first, I liked how it wasn't just about a literal invisible man, it symbolised this and that. But as it went on, we were fucking shouting at the plot holes.— twitch.tv/Limmy (@DaftLimmy) June 24, 2020pic.twitter.com/b6E1QFrdun— twitch.tv/Limmy (@DaftLimmy) October 12, 2022In June 2020 Limmy said of the Elizabeth Moss-starring film: “I really liked it at first, I liked how it wasn’t just about a literal invisible man, it symbolised this and that.“But as it went on, we were fucking shouting at the plot holes.
