An 82-year-old man was tragically found dead in a stream in the early hours of Wednesday (July 26) after discharging himself from hospital hours before, the Manchester Evening News understands.
The elderly man, originally from the Prestwich area and who was understood to have been receiving treatment at Wythenshawe Hospital, had reportedly 'discharged himself' beforehand and was reported as missing.
A search to locate the man was launched before a body was found by officers in the water at nearby Fairywell Brook at around 12.15am on Wednesday. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident, which has been referred to GMP's Professional Standards Branch. The man's family have been informed.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 12.15am yesterday morning (Wednesday 26 July 2023), officers searching for a missing person from the Prestwich area located a male in the water in Fairywell Brook, Manchester.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious and the next-of-kin of the 82-year-old man have been informed. Enquiries are ongoing and the matter has been referred to the Professional Standards Branch."
