A body found in a canal in Wigan has been confirmed as missing man Umad Yaap. The 20-year-old had been reported missing from the Standish area at around 8pm on Thursday (August 10).
A number of appeals were shared by Greater Manchester Police following his disappearance stating he had been last seen at the Britannia Hotel.
At around 5pm on Sunday (August 13), officers were then called to reports of a body in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, near Woodhouse Lane in Wigan.

The body of a man was recovered from the water by emergency services at the scene. Formal identification has now taken place and is confirmed to be the body of Mr Yaap. His next of kin have now been informed.
Superintendent Ian Jones said: "Our condolences are with Mr Yaap's loved ones and we would also like to thank the members of the public who helped with the search or shared our appeal."
