Michael Keaton makes history with his first Emmy Award for Dopesick

Brendan Fraser will receive the American Riviera Award at the 38th Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The 53-year-old actor, whose critically-acclaimed role in Darren Aronofsky‘s upcoming psychological drama "The Whale" is sparking best actor Oscar buzz, will be honored on Feb. 14, 2023, at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara, California, the festival announced on Tuesday.

Clayton Davis Sam Mendes’ “Empire of Light,” a love story and ode to cinema houses, is dividing critics after playing at the Telluride and Toronto film festivals earlier this month. However, Searchlight Pictures remains confident in its awards prospects. “Empire” is among this season’s divisive films, including “Bardo” from Alejandro G. Iñárritu and “The Son” from Florian Zeller. However, one of the agreed-upon highlights of the film is the quality of the actors’ performances — notably Oscar winner Olivia Colman, breakout star Micheal Ward and veteran actor Toby Jones. As categories become upended with the news of Michelle Williams campaigning for lead actress, instead of supporting, Ward’s campaign is cementing its strategy early by seeking supporting actor consideration for this awards season, Variety has confirmed. Playing Stephen, a young ticket-taker that begins a love affair with Hilary (Colman), a middle-aged woman coming out of a mental health episode, Ward holds his own against the three-time nominee and Oscar winner for “The Favourite” (2018).

Perhaps the most controversial part of the Emmys, on a night when political speechifying was fleeting, came at the very end, when Succession‘s Jesse Armstrong attempted to make a quip or light snipe about the British monarchy, now dominating the television landscape following the death of Queen Elizabeth.

Jennifer Coolidge is now an Emmy winner! The 61-year-old actress won her first career Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category, beating out her “White Lotus” co-stars, Connie Britton, Alexandra Daddario, Natasha Rothwell and Sydney Sweeney, as well as “Dopesick”’s Kaitlyn Dever and Mare Winningham.

I’m going to assume it was a good one. I really don’t know,” Keaton said. Last month, it was revealed that Warner Bros. had shelved “Batgirl” and would not release the film on any platform. The DC Comics adaptation, which had a $90 million production budget, starred Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl. Keaton reprised his role as Batman for the feature, which also starred J.K. Simmons and Brendan Fraser.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter HBO roared back to the top of the Emmy Awards, with the premium cabler and its streaming counterpart, HBO Max, topping the total awards haul for 2022. HBO/HBO Max picked up 38 Emmys in total, doubling their 19 wins in 2021. HBO took home multiple awards in the limited series category thanks to “The White Lotus'” 10 wins, with Mike White winning for both best writing and directing. Those wins were coupled with “The White Lotus” stars Jennifer Coolidge and Murray Bartlett’s wins for best supporting actress and actor in a limited series. To close out the night, “The White Lotus” ultimately won best limited series while “Succession” won best drama series.

Gosh, what a night!” Coolidge said while accepting her award onstage at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles during the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards. «I just want to say to my fellow nominees, just to be in your company, it's incredible.»But things took an unexpectedly hilarious turn when the star shared that she took a lavender bath that evening before the show «and it made me swell up inside my dress.» «I'm having a hard time speaking,» she admitted half-jokingly.

Emmy viewers watching the awards ceremony on NBC or Peacock may have noticed Michael Keaton’s speech momentarily cut out. But what did the newly-minted Emmy winner say that had producers cutting his audio? In an extended speech, the “Batman” actor thanked his family and loved ones for always supporting his acting dreams and never making him feel “foolish” for wanting to pursue the arts.
