Michael Keaton has become the first actor to scoop a whopping five major TV awards for the same role after winning his first ever Emmy Award. It was a big night for HBO’s runway hit The White Lotus at the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning nearly all the major categories it was nominated in. Sydney-born out gay Australian actor Murray Bartlett took home Emmy for best supporting actor in a limited series, while co-star and gay icon Jennifer Coolidge won the best supporting actress in a limited series. In his acceptance speech, Bartlett thanked White for “giving me one of the best experiences of my life” and gave a shout out to his mom. “I just want to thank my mom all the way home in Australia for giving me the most wonderful foundation of unconditional love. And inspiring me to believe that we can all do that for each other.

Perhaps the most controversial part of the Emmys, on a night when political speechifying was fleeting, came at the very end, when Succession‘s Jesse Armstrong attempted to make a quip or light snipe about the British monarchy, now dominating the television landscape following the death of Queen Elizabeth.

The 61-year-old actress won her first career Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category, beating out her “White Lotus” co-stars, Connie Britton, Alexandra Daddario, Natasha Rothwell and Sydney Sweeney, as well as “Dopesick”’s Kaitlyn Dever and Mare Winningham.

HBO/HBO Max picked up 38 Emmys in total, doubling their 19 wins in 2021. HBO took home multiple awards in the limited series category thanks to “The White Lotus'” 10 wins, with Mike White winning for both best writing and directing. Those wins were coupled with “The White Lotus” stars Jennifer Coolidge and Murray Bartlett’s wins for best supporting actress and actor in a limited series. To close out the night, “The White Lotus” ultimately won best limited series while “Succession” won best drama series.
