Mia Goth Joins Mahershala Ali in Upcoming Marvel Movie 'Blade'

Recently, it was announced that an all-star supporting cast is joining Mia Goth in the trilogy-ending film, “MaXXXine.” And now, with production underway, we get our first look at the leading lady with one of her new castmates.  READ MORE: ‘MaXXXine’: Mia Goth Describes Upcoming Horror Sequel As “A Superhero Movie” For those unfamiliar with the “X” trilogy, “MaXXXine” takes place after the events of “X” and finds Mia Goth returning as the title character, the lone survivor from the previous slasher.

After losing its original director and facing multiple rounds of revisions on the script, the “Blade” reboot from Marvel Studios seemingly still has some creative challenges to overcome. The Hollywood Reporter reports that “True Detective” creator/writer Nic Pizzolatto has been tapped by Marvel to help on the latest round of rewrites for the supernatural action-horror film.

Pre-production on the film is underway, with Pizzolatto taking on writing duties, working from a draft of the script by Emmy nominee Michael Starrbury, which has been said to be “darker than most MCU movies.” Directed by Yann Demange, who helmed “White Boy Rick” and the pilot for “Lovecraft Country,” the film is expected to begin filming in late May in Atlanta.

Rihanna has confirmed that she will be voicing Smurfette in an upcoming animated Smurfs movie for Paramount.Paramount and Rihanna confirmed the news on Thursday (April 27) at CinemaCon, where the singer made a surprise appearance. Rihanna also revealed that besides voicing Smurfette, she will also be writing and recording original music for the film.Rihanna will also serve as a producer on the film, which is set to arrive in cinemas on Valentine’s Day in 2025.

Paltrow kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008’s “Iron Man” as Pepper Potts, a role she reprised in two “Iron Man” sequels and several “Avengers” movies. Johansson made her MCU debut as Black Widow in “Iron Man 2.” Online reports at the time claimed the two actors clashed on set. “People ask me, ‘Is it true that you and Scarlett Johansson didn’t get along on ‘Iron Man’?” Paltrow recalled. “Is that a rumor?” Johansson responded. “You were so nice to me on that movie. While the film will reportedly be darker than a stereotypical Marvel romp, the extent this film will straddle the line between the safely PG-13 MCU entries and New Line Cinema’s original hard-R trilogy with Wesley Snipes remains to be seen.When Stephen Norrington’s “Blade” debuted in 1998, it was mostly sold and generally embraced (good reviews, solid buzz and $131 million worldwide on a $45 million budget) as an R-rated, martial-arts infused Snipes vehicle that just happened to be based on a Marvel comic book.
