The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of Scotland today as the country bakes in a sweltering heatwave.
Thunderstorms could bring disruption this afternoon from lightning strikes and strong, gusty winds bringing the heatwave to an end for some.
The yellow warning is in place for Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian & Borders from 4pm until 8pm on Tuesday and There is a small chance that lightning strikes could trigger wildfires or damage and power supplies.
The warning reads: "Whilst many places will remain dry and hot through this afternoon, isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop across northern England and far southeast Scotland.
"These will move quickly north with frequent lightning and the potential for localised but very strong winds with gusts of 60 mph possible. Any heavy rain is expected to be short-lived."

It comes as Scotland has been in the grips of a heatwave as temperatures could hit record highs on Tuesday.
The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning – for extreme heat in eastern, southern and central parts of Scotland – which is in force until midnight on Wednesday.
Ahead of soaring temperatures, which weather experts believe could pass the August 2003 record of 32.9C at Greycrook in the Scottish Borders, Holyrood minister Keith Brown urged people “to think about whether they need to travel and, if they do, make sure they’re properly equipped and plan their journey in advance”.
