It’s not easy for anyone to meet the in-laws - but imagine if they were the royal family.
Meghan Markle faced no mean feat on her hands when it came to her first encounters with Prince Harry’s family and she would have been keen to impress them.
Lucky for the former Suits actress, the person she had to please the most was already won over so half the battle was in the bag. According to reports, the late Queen was said to be pleased with her grandson’s choice of partner and wanted to make her feel welcome.
So when the pair got engaged and it was confirmed Meghan was there to stay, the late Queen offered up a bit of a helping hand to make sure Meghan got settled in her new way of life, as writes the Mirror.
Keen to provide Meghan with a comforting ear and someone to give her advice and show her the ropes of the working royals, the Queen suggested she get to know Sophie Wessex, the now Duchess of Edinburgh.
But according to a book the late monarch was “surprised” by Meghan’s response.
According to an extract from Our King, by royal expert Robert Jobson, Meghan sat down with the Queen for a private chat with each other and was told Harry’s grandmother was "so pleased Harry had at last found love" as she "warmly welcomed" Megan to the family.
The author states the Queen then gave Meghan some advice and said Sophie would be able to provide her with support but Meghan simply replied: "I've got Harry."
Sophie is regarded as a trusted pair of hands within the family and has even been described as the “secret weapon” of the royals. She also seemed well-placed as she had grown up in a middle-class family and she ran her own PR firm before she joined the royal family.
