Maya Jama has reportedly split from her fiancé Ben Simmons eight months after the pair got engaged. The 28 year old British presenter, who was recently tipped to take over Love Island hosting duties from Laura Whitmore, and Ben, 26, are said to have struggled with juggling their busy work schedules. The pair have been doing long distance as Maya lives in London while NBA star Ben is based in Brooklyn.
A source shared the news with the NY Post, explaining that it's "been a difficult time for them".They continued: “While they both care for each other so much, they truly gave it their all and realize that they just come from two different worlds. "They now understand they don’t have the time they thought to dedicate to this relationship.” The source went on to explain that the couple had many "heartfelt talks" and came to the conclusion that while they love each other, their careers and non-stop travel arrangements made it "impossible to work".
The source continued: “They had no idea the challenges they would face when handling all the logistics of making a life together in two countries," before adding that it was "one of the hardest decisions of their lives." The pair reportedly hope to be friends and remain in one another's lives as there's "a lot of love" between them. OK! has approached both Maya and Ben's representatives for further comment.
