As the trend of ordering a takeaway increases across the UK, obesity rates are also on a sharp spike upwards.
Since fish and chips first gained popularity back in the Victorian era, ordering a fast food meal from a takeaway restaurant has become an increasingly popular option for many, the Mirror reports.
People are aware that takeaways aren't the most healthy choice to make every day, with home-cooked meals easier to keep track of and control in terms of ingredients.
Fried foods are often high in saturated fat, while many takeaway options contain heavily processed meats.
However, health warnings have not slowed the rise in fast food ordering across Britain.
Business data has revealed that the number of takeaway eateries and food stands have increased by 15 per cent since the year 2019 - with more than 6,000 new fast food shops opening by the end of 2022.
More research has produced a map, that illustrates the amount of takeaways ordered per 10,000 people in the population.
The map also that Glasgow has the second highest number of takeaway shops in the UK (685), only beaten by Birmingham (875).
