Manchester United fans continue to await news on Sir Jim Ratcliffe's investment in the club but the INEOS founder remains primed to join the boardroom.
Earlier this month, Ratcliffe's main rival in the takeover process Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani, announced he was withdrawing himself from the process. MEN Sport understands the Qatari banker cited the Glazers' valuation of the club as the main reason behind his exit.
With Ratcliffe now the only contender left in the race, it is expected he will purchase a 25 per cent minority stake in the Reds but still hopes to complete a full takeover in time. While no official announcement has been made on the arrival of the British billionaire, speculation still remains as to what was the factor which pushed Sheikh Jassim out of the process.

According to football finance expert Kieran Maguire, Sheikh Jassim was nearing a full buyout until the Glazers changed their stance at the last minute. He explained to Football Insider: "I’m not surprised that Qatar completely withdrew.
"Senior sources close to the Sheikh Jassim bid have indicated to me that there was increased frustration towards the conduct of the Glazers. On more than one occasion, they had agreed to increase the bid. They had agreed to some concessions as far as the demands of the Glazers were concerned.
"Yet every time they felt they were close to shaking hands on a deal, the terms were changed. In the end, they didn’t want to be taken advantage of."
