Man charged in connection with Emma Caldwell death 17 years after body found

A man has been charged in connection with the death of Emma Caldwell.
We told how Iain Packer, 49, was arrested in Glasgow on Thursday following the 27-year-old's death in 2005.
On Friday police confirmed that 'the 49-year-old man who arrested in the Glasgow area on Thursday, February 24 has now been charged'.
Sex worker Emma, from Erskine in Renfrewshire, was reported missing in April 2005.
A month later her naked body was found in woodland near Biggar, South Lanarkshire.
Following consideration by senior lawyers in the Crown Office and tireless campaigning by her mother, Margaret Caldwell, the unsolved case was reopened in 2015.
Recent developments followed what officers described as "significant enquiries" carried out by detectives from Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team, the Scottish Police Authority and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.
Emma's bereft mother spoke at a press conference with solicitor Aamer Anwar in Glasgow on Thursday afternoon.
Margaret said the family are grateful to those who have worked tirelessly on the investigation since it was reopened in 2015.
Police Scotland released a statement confirming the charge on Friday afternoon.
The man remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.
The statement read: "Police Scotland can confirm that the 49-year-old man who was arrested in the Glasgow area on Thursday, February 24, 2022, has now been charged in connection with the death of Emma Caldwell.
"The man remains in custody and is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, February 28, 2022."
