A man from London appeared in court on Tuesday morning charged with assault and possession of a bladed article after an alleged stabbing in the Piccadilly Gardens area of Manchester city centre last week. Police swooped on the gardens last Monday afternoon (March 14) to reports of a stabbing following a 'group dispute'.
Isaac Francis, 20, of Wormholt Road, London, was remanded in custody to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court earlier today. And a 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was today charged with a section 4 public order offence; he is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court tomorrow (Wednesday 23 March).
At around 4.45pm on Monday 14 March, police were called to a report a man in his 20s had two stab injuries. He was treated in hospital and later discharged.

City-goers and commuters were immediately rushed out of the area as police and ambulance dealt with the reported incident. The victim was rushed to hospital by paramedics from the scene, and a large cordon was erected throughout the gardens and remained in place late into the evening.
One eyewitness said they saw a 'quick response' and 11 police officers rush to the scene and disperse worried crowds shortly after the alleged incident. Several police cordons were set up in Piccadilly Gardens following the alleged stabbing, as pictures from the scene showed a large patch of grass taped off, close to the Piccadilly Gardens Metrolink stop.
