A man arrested at Manchester Airport was due to appear in court today after a major international police investigation into people smuggling. Kaiwan Poore, a 37-year-old Iranian-born UK national, was detained by police at the airport on Wednesday ahead of a flight to Turkey, the National Crime Agency said.
He was due to appear in court on Thursday after the operation targeting small boat people smuggling carried out by the NCA.
He had been listed as wanted by the NCA, who were working with law enforcement partners in France to track him down, said a spokesman. French prosecutors allege Poore is part of an organised crime network involved in people smuggling.

A series of raids across Europe saw around 40 people arrested earlier this month. The NCA said extradition proceedings were due to begin at a hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London today.
NCA Deputy Director, Jacque Beer, said its investigation was targeting criminal networks alleged to have used small boats to smuggle up to 10,000 people into the UK.
"Our work to curtail the activities of these gangs continues, and working with our European partners we are determined to do all we can to disrupt them and bring them to justice," he said.
Six arrests were made by the NCA as part of strikes across Europe on July 5, including two men held on suspicion of conspiring to facilitate illegal immigration. The pair were later bailed pending further enquiries.
Arrests were also made for drug and immigration offences.
