Scots in life-threatening situations have been urged to use their mobile phones to call 999 - after the landline telephone network crashed.
Users were left unable to contact the emergency services overnight due to an as yet unspecified problem with the analogue telephone system which covers the UK.
It is unclear how many people in need were left unable to contact Police Scotland, the Scottish Ambulance Service or the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service due to the outage.
The alarm over the faulty system was raised on the Police Scotland Greater Glasgow Facebook page. A post read: "We are aware of issues affecting telephone services in the area of west Glasgow.

"The outage only affects landlines and includes the 999 service. If you require emergency services, please use a mobile phone."
Police Scotland, the Scottish Ambulance Service, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Openreach, the company which manages the network, were approached for comment.
