M53 shut after school bus overturns in crash with 'number of casualties'

Emergency services are responding to a crash involving a school bus on a motorway in Merseyside this morning.
Police, fire crews and ambulance vehicles are on the scene on the M53. The motorway has been shut off both ways between junction five for Eastham and junction four for Bebington.
The fire service has confirmed there are a 'number of casualties'. Calday Grange Grammar School confirmed a bus full of pupils at the school had crashed, the Liverpool Echo reports.

The school said: "We are aware of a situation involving one of our school buses on the motorway earlier today.
"We're actively gathering details and assisting affected students and their families. Support is available. If you need to talk or seek guidance, please reach out to our teaching and pastoral teams."
A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: "Following reports of an RTC between a car and a coach on the M53, the trust has despatched resources to the scene. We are assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services.
"Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible. Updates will be published through our social media channels."
Merseyside Police said it was called at just after 8am to reports a bus had struck a reservation at junction 5 of the motorway.
The force said: “Junctions 3-5 of the M53 are closed in both directions. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service is currently ensuring the safe removal of passengers and the driver, and North West Ambulance Service are at the scene
