‘The Once and Future,’ from Locarno Winner Yeo Siew Hua, Set Up at Bikini, General Film Services

Emilio Mayorga “The Once and Future,” a hybrid project directed by Yeo Siew Hua winner of Locarno’s top prize in 2018 with “A Land Imagined,” will open at the upcoming Singapore Festival of Arts (SIFA).Edson Sidonie’s Buenos Aires-based Bikini Films and Roger García’s General Film Services in the U:S: have teamed for this multi-platform  project which will be made as a feature, opera and performance show.Announced as an “expanded cinema experience,” the story is set in the  near future, when the planet has become unsustainable and humankind prepares for a planetary exodus to escape extinction.Unable to withstand the voyage, people must leave their bodies behind and upload the totality of human experiences into something called The Labyrinth. The human race is finally just one.

Former NBC Entertainment Chair Paul Telegdy Launches New Shingle, Developing Falkland War Drama

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at LargeFormer NBC Entertainment chairman Paul Telegdy has launched a new shingle with his cousin, Berlin-based advertising exec Stefan Telegdy, and they are pitching their first TV project, a 10-episode series about the Falklands/Malvinas War of 1982.The Telegdys’ The Whole Spiel production company has partnered with Lone Wolf Pictures and Infinity Hill to produce “The Islands,” which tells the story of that 1982 war, from the perspective of the soldiers and civilians on both sides of the 74-day conflict.Argentine writer Sebastian Rotstein (“El Presidente” Season 2, “Morir de Amor”) is writing the screenplay for the show, which will employ writers and directors from both the U.K. and Argentina to tell the full story.

Anna Marie de la Fuente Argentina’s most bankable star, Adrian Suar, has wrapped his directorial debut “30 Noches Con Mi Ex” (“30 Nights With My Ex”) to which FilmSharks has snagged worldwide rights. The Buenos Aires-based sales and production outfit has already sold remake rights to Conchita Taboada of Spectrum Films for Mexico and to Italian producer Alessandro Usai of Colorado Films.Disney’s Star Distribution holds the theatrical distribution rights for Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia, while Cinecolor snapped up rights to Peru, Chile and Colombia.

Nick Vivarelli International CorrespondentCairo-based film marketing and distribution outfit MAD Solutions has taken an equity ownership stake in New York’s revived arthouse distributor D Street Releasing.The partnership will extend the reach of MAD Solutions’ theatrical distribution operations, giving it an inroad into the U.S. arthouse sector where so far Arab cinema has been largely reliant on festival exposure.MAD Solutions, which is a top distributor of specialty Arab cinema across the West Asia region, now plans to release between five and seven standout titles from Saudi Arabia, Egypt and other Arabic-speaking countries to North American audiences.D Street Releasing, which has been largely dormant in recent years, is a division of D Street Media Group, the New York-based production, distribution and music publishing company with affiliate operations in the U.S., Germany, Ecuador, Argentina and South Africa.

Emiliano De Pablos Film Factory Entertainment has picked up international sales rights to Cristian Bernard’s thriller movie “Ecos de un crimen” (“Echoes”), successfully released in Argentina by Warner Bros Pictures and HBO Max.Barcelona-based Film Factory, which previously handled hit Latin American titles such as “Wild Tales,” “La Llorona” and “The Clan,” will introduce “Echoes” to international buyers at next week’s Cannes Film Market.After a Jan. 27 theatrical release, “Echoes” sold more than 105,000 tickets, becoming the biggest local hit at the Argentine box office since March 2020, the beginning of COVID-19 quarantine.“Echoes” is produced by Particular Crowd, the original content label of WarnerMedia Latin America, alongside Buenos Aires-based Tieless Media, the production company founded by Fernando Abadi.
