Christina Piovesan, executive producer and CEO of First Generation Films unveiled the casting. The five-episode series is based on Jeff Lemire’s graphic novel of the same name, which explores themes of loss, betrayal, trauma and redemption via two families living in a rural community. Lemire is also writing and showrunning the series, which is directed by Andrew Cividino (“Schitt’s Creek”).

Amber Dowling “The Hardy Boys” has started production on its final chapter, Variety can reveal. The live-action Canadian children’s series, from Corus Entertainment studio Nelvana and Lambert Productions, is ending after three seasons. Filming on the final eight, hour-long episodes is underway in Toronto and southern Ontario, Canada. The story is expected to pick up following the cliffhanger events in the second season, and follow the boys and their friends as they dig up more secrets and conspiracies. Meanwhile, they’ll continue piecing together their great-grandfather’s map to uncover a powerful relic before it falls into the wrong hands.

Viggo Mortensen is set to star in, write and direct “The Dead Don’t Hurt,” a western love story set in the 1860s.The film also stars Vicky Krieps (“Bergman Island,” “Phantom Thread”) and is slated to begin shooting on Oct. 12 in Canada. “The Dead Don’t Hurt” is a Talipot Studio, Recorded Picture, and Perceval Pictures production, produced by Regina Solórzano (“Los Reyes del Mundo”), Oscar winner Jeremy Thomas (“EO”), and Mortensen.Talipot Studio is fully funding the film that will shoot predominantly in Durango, Mexico where Talipot will manage the production.

The highly anticipated film, which was first revealed by Variety last month, tells the story of the meteoric rise and catastrophic demise of the BlackBerry, and stars an ensemble cast including Jay Baruchel (“This Is the End”), Glenn Howerton (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) and Cary Elwes (“Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning”). The pic will detail the operations of BlackBerry’s Canadian parent company Research in Motion, which was one of the country’s most illustrious and well-known tech companies before it floundered in legal disputes and eventually lost its market advantage to competitors such as Apple and Samsung. Police in London, Ontario have owned up to their mistakes over the arrest of Canadian trans Twitch streamer Clara Sorrenti after receiving hoax 911 calls that she was planning to attend city hall to shoot people.“We believe there was a deliberate attempt by a third party to place suspicion on Sorrenti in relation to what are now believed to be false threats to harm people at City Hall.  This is sometimes referred to as “swatting,” London Police Service Chief Steve Williams said in a statement. Sorrenti, who is well known by her Twitch handle Keffals, had in a YouTube video described how she was woken up with an “assault rifle in (her) face on August 5. The police claimed that an email impersonating Sorrenti had been sent to every city councillor that morning.
