SATURDAY AM: Refresh for chart…and more analysis Disney/Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is still bound to open at the bottom of end of tracking’s projection of $60M as this morning. I saw an estimate in The Flash vicinity of $55M last night and took an Alka Seltzer out of shock. Hopefully Dial of Destiny doesn’t fall apart tonight and at least stays on course for a Mission: Impossible – Fallout type opening in the $60M range over three days. That figure might be good for exhibition and popcorn sales over the five-day holiday weekend, but it stinks for a movie that has a reported cost of $250M to near $300M before P&A.

How do you tell the story of a life? That’s a question many of the characters in “Bucky F*cking Dent” poise aloud, a little too aware of their construction. It’s a question its star David Duchovny should have asked himself behind the camera, too.
Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic “Bucky F*cking Dent,” the second movie written and directed by David Duchovny (the first was “House of D,” in 2004), is based on a novel by Duchovny that was published in 2016, and whether or not the story is autobiographical, it feels autobiographical, and I mean that as a compliment. Set in the summer of 1978, it’s framed around one man’s obsession with the Boston Red Sox — meaning, of course, the curse of the Bambino, going back to 1918, the last time (until 2004) the Sox won the championship. The man is Ted Fulilove, which is a terrible last name for a movie character, though he’s played by Duchovny as a cussed crab apple with an amusing misanthropic put-down for every occasion (like: “Closure’s for morons”). “Bucky F*cking Dent” has a handful of characters, but it’s essentially a father-son two-hander — one of those dramadies in which the dad is a heartless-on-the-surface coot who was no good when it came to how he treated his family, and the son is a lot nicer and more sensitive, but maybe too sensitive (as a correction to all that paternal dickishness). Which also means that he’s lost.
For his sophomore feature, the follow-up to 2004’s little-seen indie House of D, David Duchovny serves up a similarly niche confection, a sometimes-zany black comedy based on his 2016 novel of the same name. The elevator pitch is a tough one; though it’s funny in places, the tone is all over the place, one minute aspiring for the arch, stoner laughs of PTA’s Inherent Vice, the next veering into straightforward sentiment with a rambling final section that hits a similar highway to the 2006 Sundance hit Little Miss Sunshine. There’s also the f-word: the looming curse of American baseball movies that don’t have the word Field in the title, which could hamper its commercial prospects in the wider world.

Katcy Stephan SPOILER ALERT: This review contains spoilers from “With Open Eyes,” the series finale of HBO’s “Succession,” now streaming on Max. Connor Roy was interested in politics at an early age — but Alan Ruck isn’t convinced. “He can say anything he wants to say, but just because he was interested doesn’t mean he’s knowledgeable.” Still, in his mid-50s, Connor’s interest is finally becoming a reality — with a catch. In the finale of HBO’s acclaimed drama “Succession,” from creator Jesse Armstrong, Ruck’s character is poised to become the next ambassador to Slovenia, provided that Jeryd Mencken actually becomes president. But his new wife Willa (Justine Lupe) drops a bombshell: She will be staying in New York (in Logan’s old apartment) while Connor carries out his duties abroad.
“Succession” star Sarah Snook said that every day working on the popular HBO drama series felt like a “pinch me moment.”“Is this my job? Do I have to commute by boat to a super yacht for work? It’s bad, it’s very, very bad,” the actress said during a behind-the-scenes featurette you can watch above. “The last couple of episodes in Season 2 when we’re on the boat in Croatia, that was like ‘I’m getting paid for this? Oh, OK.'”She noted that the final scene shot – the “meal fit for a king” sequence – was a “playful, joyful, silly kind of experience.”“It was really fun but once we finished that, the kind of reality hit and I got pretty sad again,” Snook added.Brian Cox said the diner scene between Colin and Logan in Season 4 was a “lovely scene” to film.“It’s an acknowledgement of a character who’s just been a constant throughout the whole show,” Cox said.
A love worth fighting for. Nancy Drew (Kennedy McMann) and Ace (Alex Saxon)’s romance has been on everyone’s mind since the show debuted on The CW.
SPOILER ALERT! This post contains spoilers for the series finale of HBO’s Succession.
This article contains major spoilers for the ‘Succession’ finale.Succession fans are all pointing to one scene in the show’s second season to explain the outcome of the HBO show’s dramatic finale, which aired last night (May 28).After a power struggle between the Roy siblings after the death of their father Logan, the finale ended with Shiv Roy (Sarah Snook) backtracking on her pact with brothers Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) to betray them and cast the deciding vote to sell Waystar Royco to Lukas Matsson’s (Alexander Skarsgård) GoJo company. This meant that Shiv’s husband and ATN boss Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) became boss of the company in a major twist after Matsson betrayed Shiv, who was initially in line for the CEO job.Online after the finale aired, fans are calling back to the last episode of the show’s second season, when Wambsgans ate a piece of chicken off Logan’s plate during a summit meeting on a yacht without asking. For many, it symbolised Tom being able to stand up to Logan in a way that none of his children were able to.“Tom became the heir/CEO when he ate Logan’s chicken,” one said, with another adding: “So the chicken scene was key to how everything unfolded.”Tom became the heir/CEO when he ate Logan's chicken. Ken, Shiv, and Roman, “the kids”, were always “not serious people”.
Succession‘s major season four twist happened “too early”.The actor was referring to the third episode of the fourth and final season of the hit HBO series, in which Cox’s character Logan Roy unexpectedly collapsed and died while flying to meet Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) in Sweden.Logan’s death, which happened off-screen, served as a major shake up to the show, leaving his children scrambling to assume control of Waystar Royco.Cox acknowledged that the twist had been executed in “a pretty brilliant way”, but that he thought creator Jesse Armstrong “decided to make Logan die, I think ultimately too early”.Speaking to BBC’s Amol Rajan, the actor said that he initially viewed the decision to kill off Logan “wrongly, as a form of rejection”.“I was fine with it ultimately, but I did feel a little bit rejected. I felt a little bit, ‘Oh, all the work I’ve done’,” Cox said.In a separate interview with Barley, Cox echoed these sentiments, saying he was “fine with what happened and happy to be finished”, but added that he “would have done it later”.He explained: “In my view it is strange to be missing the main protagonist from so early on, but we are hostages to the writers in situations like this.”Elsewhere, Fisher Stevens recently revealed that he wrote a spin-off story for his Succession character Hugo Baker.Stevens has portrayed Hugo, an executive at Waystar RoyCo, in seasons two, three and four of the HBO series.Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor said he wrote an unofficial story about Hugo’s future, with the show set to conclude this month.“I do that whenever I get a part.

The first time Jim Jarmusch came to Cannes was with his sophomore film Stranger Than Paradise, which played the Quinzaine in 1984. “We all shared one apartment that had no hot water, that was up the hill,” he recalls. “One day I had to be on TV and there was no water, so I had to shave with leftover tea.” Those days are long gone; Jarmusch is a fixture on the Croisette these days, and even had the dubious pleasure of opening it in 2019 with his Bill Murray-starring zombie comedy The Dead Don’t Die.
They grow up so fast! Sister Wives star Janelle Brown took to social media to celebrate her eldest son Logan Brown’s 29th birthday.
