Siriusly grateful: Gary Oldman said the ‘Harry Potter’ movies ‘saved’ him — here’s why

“The Drew Barrymore Show” to promote his AppleTV+ series, “Slow Horses,” Oldman, 65 – who is father to sons Alfie, Gulliver and Charlie and step-son William – said that he was cast in the “Harry Potter” movies shortly after divorcing his ex-wife, Donya Fiorentino, in 2001.“At 42 years old, I woke up divorced and I had custody of these boys and so that, in itself, was hard because there was a shift in the industry where a lot of productions were being [filmed in], it was Hungary, Budapest, Prague, Australia, you know, all of these places,” he told Drew Barrymore, 48. Barrymore interjected to explain that global filming locations shifted because of “tax reasons.” As a result, Oldman said he “turned down a lot of work” in order to be with his children.“Thank God for ‘Harry Potter,’” he said.

Wes Anderson on How ‘Asteroid City’ Star Jason Schwartzman Helped Inspire His Latest Film

Todd Gilchrist editor Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City” is a nesting doll of a film—a television broadcast of a documentary about a play, assembled with the same precision and detail as Anderson’s “The Royal Tenenbaums,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “The French Dispatch” among others. Thematically, the connective tissue between its layers of reality, like many of those earlier films, is the notion and processing of loss.

‘Poor Things’ Host Hungary Anticipates Continuing Production Boom After SAG-AFTRA Strike Settles

Christopher Vourlias With the resolution of the Hollywood writers strike in September, hopes were high for a return to business as usual in bustling Budapest, host to such recent high-profile productions as Yorgos Lanthimos’ Venice sensation and Oscar frontrunner “Poor Things.” But the sudden breakdown in negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP in early October dampened that enthusiasm. “We were starting to get momentum back, which was leading us to believe that we would be opening up offices on new shows in early November, on the assumption that the strike would be over by the end of October,” says Adam Goodman of Mid Atlantic Films, which is currently servicing Peacock and Sky’s spy series “The Day of the Jackal.” Instead, a waiting game is playing out in studios and C-suites across the globe, as actors, talent reps, executives and other industry players not only try to hash out a blueprint for the film and TV business moving forward but plot the next step for the many productions put on pause during the nearly four-month-old strike.

How ‘The Continental’ Filmed That Intense Stairwell Shoot-Out in One Day and Brought ‘John Wick’ Action to TV

Jordan Moreau The “John Wick” movies are known for their high-octane, guns-blazing action on the big screen, but now the franchise is heading to Peacock — and about 50 years in the past — to explore its origins in “The Continental.” Across three episodes, the ’70s-set series dives into how a young Winston Scott (played by Colin Woodell) became the proprietor of the titular hotel, which is famous for throwing lavish parties and being a safe haven for assassins. But, as “John Wick” fans know, not everybody abides by the no-killing rule on Continental grounds. The show, which premieres on Peacock Friday, starts with a bang — actually, a lot of them — thanks to stunt coordinator Larnell Stovall.
