Blink-182 welcome Tom DeLonge back with anthemic new single ‘Edging’

Blink-182 have returned with their first song to feature Tom DeLonge in just months shy of a decade: a belting pop-punk anthem titled ‘Edging’.Despite its title (and the returning frontman’s penchant for tongue-in-cheek raciness) the song is surprisingly void of sex jokes, instead offering a self-deprecative take on the dissolution of a relationship. It opens with DeLonge singing the first verse, as he quips: “I ain’t that cool, a little fucked in the head / They’ll be hangin’ me quick when I’m back from the dead.”A music video for ‘Edging’, directed by Cole Bennett, is due to be released tomorrow (October 15).

Bruce Springsteen to sing ‘challenging’ soul classics on new cover album: ‘I’m kicking ass’

vague Instagram posts featuring a road and a steering wheel, Bruce Springsteen announced today that he’ll be dropping a new album of soul covers, “Only the Strong Survive,” on November 11. This will be the ageless rocker’s 21st studio album, which “celebrates 15 soul music gems from the legendary catalogues of Motown, Gamble and Huff, Stax and many more,” according to the announcement. In a video message posted on social media, Springsteen said his latest project will also put his vocals front and center — something he said has always played “second, third or fourth” to other elements in his music like composition, arrangements and melodies. “In my own memoir, I gave my voice a little short shrift by saying I i didn’t think I had much of one,” he said in a video announcing “Only The Strong Survive.”“I decided to do something I had never done before, make some music that is centered around singing, around challenging my voice.

Neil Young Registers a Quiet Protest Against Beck’s ‘Old Man’ NFL Commercial

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Neil Young may have effectively signed over some of the rights to use his music in advertising when he sold 50% of his publishing to Hipgnosis Songs in 2021. But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t reserved the right to weigh in — subtly — when his music is licensed for commercials going forward. Young seems to not be entirely approving of an NFL ad over the weekend that used Beck’s newly commissioned cover version of “Old Man” as its soundtrack. The veteran rocker did not weigh in on the Beck cover or its usage directly, and he could not be reached for comment. But Young seemed to say it all with an image that was posted to his official Instagram account Monday.

Neil Young appears to take issue with Beck’s ‘Old Man’ cover featuring in NFL advert

Neil Young has seemingly taken issue with Beck‘s cover of his song ‘Old Man’ being featured in a National Football League (NFL) advert. On Sunday (September 25) Beck’s version of Young’s 1972 track was teased in an NBC Sports advert during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Kansas City Chiefs NFL game and was later released on streaming services. Now, Young has apparently aired his disappointment with the commercial placement by sharing a still from his anti-sponsorship video for his 1988 song ‘This Note’s For You’.In the image, which Young posted on Instagram, the singer-songwriter holds a bottle labelled “SPONSORED BY NOBODY”.A post shared by Neil Young Archives (@neilyoungarchives)Some of the lyrics to the song go: “Ain’t singing for Pepsi/ Ain’t singing for Coke/ I don’t sing for nobody/ Makes me look like a joke.” The track features on Young’s 16th solo album of the same name, released in 1988.As Pitchfork notes, Young may have lost the right to veto sponsorship deals for songs including ‘Old Man’ when he sold half of his catalogue to Hipgnosis in 2021.
