Texas nursing home fires caretakers charged with beating 87-year-old man

A Texas woman was charged with murder Monday after authorities alleged she admitted to fatally stabbing her 5-year-old daughter in the neck at a park and wrapping her in bags. Melissa White Towne, 37, was booked in the Harris County Jail after she drove to a hospital emergency room Sunday and told staff she had killed her daughter, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. When a nurse opened the car door, she reportedly found Towne's daughter partially wrapped in plastic and mesh bags.

Police in Texarkana, Texas, announced over the weekend the Oct. 7 arrest of a man they allege stole a truck and "scared the beejeebies" out of people by strolling around a Walmart parking lot with a hatchet in the front of his pants. Jerry Toney, 25, was apprehended by officers as he was getting into a black Dodge pickup at a Walmart while sporting a hatchet and baton in his pants, which he reportedly said he needed for protection, according to local KSLA.

Border patrol officers in Texas recently encountered Halloween decorations in a disguise of their own during an inspection at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry. While conducting a second inspection of a car coming from Mexico, field officers discovered $402,196 in liquid methamphetamine inside pumpkins, U.S. Customs and Border Protections said in a news release.

Texas police have taken a couple's son into custody as a person of interest in his parents' double murder. Johnson County Deputies on Oct. 5 conducted a welfare check on Michael Scarlett, 66, and Kay Scarlett, 68, after receiving a phone call from a concerned family member who was unable to get in touch with the couple, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO).

An Indiana man accused of smuggling three migrants crashed his car during a high-speed chase in Uvalde County recently, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.  Richard Diaz, 21, allegedly told police that he was being paid $3,000 per person to smuggle the migrants from the border community of Eagle Pass to San Antonio.  He was charged with two counts of human smuggling causing serious bodily injury, Texas DPS spokesman Christopher Olivarez told Fox News Digital.  The driver sped off during an apparent traffic stop in Uvalde County, Texas.  (Texas Department of Public Safety) Dashcam footage shows the driver accelerate away from an apparent traffic stop at night. California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom's reelection campaign put up a billboard in Austin, Texas, promoting his state's abortion access for women. The billboard, placed just south of Stassney Lane in South Austin, features a woman sitting with her arms crossed over her knees looking toward a pro-abortion message that reads, "Need an abortion? A former Texas State Trooper who responded to the Robb Elementary School shooting on May 24th and was recently hired by the Uvalde school district was fired from her new job on Thursday, officials announced.  "We are deeply distressed by the information that was disclosed yesterday evening concerning one of our recently hired employees, Crimson Elizondo," the Uvalde school district said in a statement.  "We sincerely apologize to the victim’s families and the greater Uvalde community for the pain that this revelation has caused."
