EXCLUSIVE: Even as they continue to develop the final chapter in its main Star Trek series, Paramount is looking to expand on the IPs universe as it has tapped Toby Haynes to direct a new film that expands on the Star Trek universe with Seth Grahame-Smith penning the script. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot is producing and sources tell Deadline that while plot details are being kept under wraps this project is an origin story that takes place decades before the original 2009 Star Trek film. Insiders go on to add the final chapter in the main series, Star Trek 4 remains in active development.

Sam Fender has shared his soulful new song ‘Iris’, taken from the soundtrack to the new film Jackdaw.The track was debuted on Edith Bowman’s BBC Radio 2 Culture Club show yesterday (Tuesday January 9), and can be heard here from around the 38 minute mark, or below. The first new material from Fender following on his 2021 second album ‘Seventeen Going Under‘ – named as NME‘s Album Of The Year – was described by Bowman as “absolute perfection” in how it accompanies a touching scene in Jackdaw, which is set in Fender’s native North East of the UK.“He’s been away doing what he does and writing new things, and what’s absolutely wonderful is that he’s been incredibly supportive of fellow creatives – in the form of Jamie Childs the filmmaker, who’s about to release his first feature film,” said Bowman introducing the film.”She continued: “Jamie has worked across some brilliant programmes, directing things like Dr Who, The Sandman, His Dark Materials, and now he’s about to release his first feature film Jackdaw – which is set in the North East of England, which is where Sam is from.“They got in touch with Sam and said, ‘Do you fancy seeing if you’ve got anything around?’ and, lo and behold, Sam gifts them this track exclusively for the film – and it could not be more fitting.”The song leans on Fender’s soulful side, set to a stripped-back guitar backing as the North Shields artist tenderly sings of a woman navigating her way through hard times in the North East.Jackdaw is released in cinemas January 26 following a Stockton-On-Tees premiere on January 24.

Paramore have announced their return with a cover as part of a Talking Heads tribute album after wiping their social media clean.Last month, the trio – comprised of Hayley Williams, guitarist Taylor York and drummer Zac Farro – took down all posts and images from social media pagess, while their official website displayed a 404 error message. This came after the band voiced a “level of uncertainty” about their future, following the completion of their ‘This Is Why’ tour and recently-fulfilled obligations to their label.Further speculation about the band came last week, when it was announced that they would be pulling out of their headline performance at the ALTer Ego Festival, before it was reported that Paramore are gearing up for a new era and a fresh record deal.Now, the trio have jumped into activity again.

Green Day have dropped a defiant new track called ‘One Eyed Bastard’ – you can listen to it below.Released today (January 5), the track is the latest preview of the pop-punk trio’s upcoming album ‘Saviors’, and follows on from recent tracks ‘Dilemma’, ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’ and ‘Look Ma, No Brains!’.Unlike their personal last single ‘Dilemma’, which was shared last month, ‘One Eyed Bastard’ takes on the more traditional Green Day sound – a defiant pop-punk anthem that focuses on resistance.“Vendetta is a friend of mine/ Revenge is sweeter than wine/ I never asked to hear your god-damned feelings/ Get on your knees when you are kissing my ring,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong sings in the build-up to the chorus. Heart have played their first live shows together in almost half a decade around and on New Years Eve.The first date took place on December 27 at a more intimate venue, the Yaamava Theatre in Highland, California.
