Lioness Alex Greenwood stretchered off with sickening head injury during Belgium match

England football star Alex Greenwood had to be taken off the field on a stretcher after a scary head injury during a match against Belgium. She collided with Belgium player Jassina Blom while trying to head the ball in the first half of the Nations League game. While Jassina was able to carry on playing with a bandaged head, Lioness Alex needed immediate medical attention on the pitch, including being put into a neck brace.
Six paramedics and four members of England's medical team were quickly on hand, and it looked like Alex was given oxygen. Her England teammates looked worried as they waited for the medics to do their work. Manchester City defender Jess Carter was brought on to replace Alex by coach Sarina Wiegman.
Former England goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain said on ITV4's coverage: "Safety is paramount you would like to think all the tests have been done so that Jassina Blom is safe to continue with the game," and "Precaution is the key aspect of this." After a 10-minute delay, Alex was carried off the pitch on a stretcher to applause from the fans at the Den Dreef stadium in Belgium, including 700 from England. She was awake as she left the pitch, squeezing the hands of her teammates Millie Bright and Georgia Stanway. The Lionesses were trailing 1-0 due to a stunning free-kick from Laura de Neve, which left Mary Earps helpless.
However, Lucy Bronze managed to level the score with a brilliant header from Chloe Kelly's free-kick just moments after Alex was stretchered off the pitch.
