The family of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who was killed in a tragic accident on the set of Rust, are attempting to evacuate Ukraine.
On Friday (March 18), Halyna’s husband Matthew revealed that her family is currently trapped in Kyiv amid the Russian invasion.

“Ukrainian refugees need humanitarian corridors,” he wrote on Twitter, per People. “Halyna‘s family is trapped in Kyiv because of the danger of travel. Her mother continues to work in the hospital where she has been a nurse for over a decade because her country needs her, but also because they cannot leave safely.”
In several other tweets, Matthew advocated for a “no fly zone” in Ukraine and told his followers to “support refugees and the territorial defense force with aid and any intervention possible to protect the Ukrainian citizens and their independence.”
His reps told ET, “Halyna‘s sister and 3-year-old niece have just made it to the Romanian border, attempting to get evacuated.”
Halyna died on October 21, 2021 after she was shot by a prop gun discharged by Alec Baldwin on the set of Rust. In February of this year, it was announced that her family had filed a lawsuit against the actor over the fatal accident.
