A chef has revealed the common turkey mistake people make when prepping their cooked bird for Christmas Day.
The cook, who goes by @poppycooks on TikTok, has told her followers to "Say NO to dry turkey" this festive season, as she shares common mistakes people make when cooking their Christmas dinner.
Poppy has said that people are cooking their turkey wrong, and her top tips will ensure that you won't be chewing on a dry piece of meat this season. The chef added: "If I hear one more person say that Turkey is dry, it's not the Turkey's problem - it's the way you are cooking it!"
She said that one of the most important things is to leave the turkey "to rest for half an hour at least" after cooking. Resting allows the juices to soak into the meat and create tasty moisture.
So, if you're one of those people who takes the turkey out of the oven and carves it straight away, think twice. Waiting 30 minutes as per Poppy's advice could ensure it doesn't dry out.
Poppy says the first step for a moist turkey is to put their turkey in a dry brine for around three days to "make it more succulent and absolutely delicious". The chef also suggested making a compound butter, a mix of garlic, rosemary, thyme, the zest and juice of an orange and a lemon with "a load of butter".
Poppy said: "Mix that all together so it all comes together, and then that is going to go in between the skin and the flesh of the turkey. This can be just before you cook it.
"Pat the turkey dry, loads of salt on top of it, and then just stuff the carcass with some lemon, onion, whatever you've got. Then that goes into the oven."
Poppy's followers headed to the comments to share their delight in finding out these hacks, as one said: "Finally a not dry turkey!"
