New bank notes featuring King Charles III will have entered circulation today (5 June), although it could be a while before they find their way into purses and wallets across the country. Notes featuring the late Queen Elizabeth II will remain legal tender while slowly being replaced with new notes. The new £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes feature a portrait of the King that was taken in 2013.
The reverse side of the bank notes have remained the same featuring Sir Winston Churchill, Jane Austen, JMW Turner and Alan Turing.

The Bank of England prints serial numbers onto every note they issue, some of which may have special meanings.
The first note with King Charles printed on has the serial number the AA01 000001.
However, while these early notes rarely make it into circulation, but a number have been donated by the Bank if England to charities, where they will be auctioned off. But it has been confirmed that not all the early £20 notes have been sent elsewhere or reserved by collectors, meaning some lucky shoppers could find them making their way into their hands. AA notes tend to be the most valuable, but those with just one A could still be worth more than usual.
Back in 2017 an AA01 £5 sold on eBay for over £60,000. Notes with consecutive numbers can also be valuable to collectors, for example AA1234567. Notes with the serial numes AA01090561 and AA01090562 sold for more than £50 two years ago.
