‘John Early: Now More Than Ever’ Review: The Queer Comic Skewers How His Generation Behaves Online

Murtada Elfadl From the pre-credits screen that implores audiences, “This film should be played loud bitch,” “John Early: Now More Than Ever” announces itself as a very gay show. The comedian’s most comfortable and funniest speciality is using gay vernacular mockingly. At just over an hour in length, his first HBO special is a fleeting and sharp dissection of how Early’s “generation” behaves or misbehaves, particularly online. Known for his pairing as a writer with comedian Kate Berlant and for his role in TV’s “Search Party,” Early has amassed a devoted following without achieving mainstream stardom … yet, at least. He should have broken out as an actor. His small but memorable part as the best friend of the lead character in the 2016 movie “Other People” hinted at a casual and comfortable presence on screen. The role ought to have led to more parts toeing the line between comedy and drama. Now, in a project more reflective of his stand-up persona, Early shows a confrontational and restlessly physical presence. Whether singing covers of artists such as Britney Spears or telling jokes, making faces, pointing and dancing, the comic holds our attention.

Opera gloves are the new It fashion accessory: ‘The Great Glove Affair’

glove.Opera gloves, the classic Victorian accessory once considered mandatory for proper etiquette, are no longer reserved for galas and ritzy society events. A-listers are now embracing the ladylike, elegant formal accessory in a variety of fabrics for drama on the red carpets, outings and social media.Fit for a princess, Kate Middleton looked regal in Alexander McQueen, a recycled gown she wore to the same event in 2019, and black gloves extending up to her bicep at the BAFTAs on Sunday. But the trend isn’t limited to royalty, Jane Austen films and “Bridgerton.” Last week, Anne Hathaway wore long leather gloves with a Valentino gown for the Berlinale opening of her film “She Came To Me.” And Jennifer Coolidge channeled old Hollywood glamour by pairing black gloves with diamonds à la Marilyn Monroe at the Critics’ Choice Awards last month.“I have been in the glove industry for the last 33 years, and it’s certainly the biggest revival since the ’50s,” Deborah Moore, CEO of Dents of England, a purveyor of gloves since 1777, told The Post.

Golden Globes Return to Sunday in 2024 as Telecast Takes Bids for New Broadcast Partner (EXCLUSIVE)

Matt Donnelly Senior Film Writer The 81st Golden Globe Awards are heading back to Sunday night. The film and TV celebration, which officially kicks off awards season, has staked January 7, 2024 for its next telecast, Variety can report exclusively. The show pivoted to a Tuesday this year to avoid an NFL game leading up to the NCAA National Championship showdown. In addition to reclaiming the traditional Sunday slot, producers behind the Globes are entertaining multiple offers from potential distribution partners, sources familiar with the talks said. Both TV networks and streamers are in the mix to air the next installment, one of the sources added. This includes NBC, the network which has broadcast the show since 1996. That year, “Sense and Sensibility” took home best drama, and Emma Thompson, the winner for best motion picture screenplay, delivered a memorable speech in character as Jane Austen. It’s not surprising that streamers are interested in the Globes, as the major platforms look to diversify their viewing experiences with live programming. In January, Netflix announced a multiyear deal to host the Screen Actors Guild Awards (which goes on service starting in 2024, and this year will be live-streamed on Netflix’s official YouTube channel).

Emily review – love, passion and sex in impressive Brontë biopic

adaptation of Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park, in which she famously went toe-to-toe on screen with Harold Pinter who was playing her uncle Sir Thomas Bertram. Now she has made a really impressive debut as a writer and director with this study of Emily Brontë, intelligently played by the Franco-British star Emma Mackey. It’s beautifully acted, lovingly shot, fervently and speculatively imagined, although Mackey’s portrayal, excellent as it is, may be smoother around the edges and less windblown than the real thing.
