A group of killer teenagers have been jailed for more than 130 years after they ambushed their victim "like lions on prey" then sliced at him with a 9.4 inch-long Rambo knife.
Chilling CCTV footage captured the last moments of Bailey Atkinson's life. The 21-year-old had been out with a female friend when his killers arrived in two stolen cars and gave chase on Walsall High Street on January 28, last year.
He was brutally set upon with the knife after being unable to outrun his attackers, and left for dead in a pool of blood. As reported by Birmingham Live, the murder weapon was left lodged in his shoulder. "I'm going to die," Bailey mumbled as he lay dying in the deserted town centre. "Tell my mum I love her."
During the trial, jurors heard the attack was like "lions on prey", with the harrowing attack witnessed in part by Asda staff who had stepped outside for a break. They rushed to his aid as the slaughter came to an end, seconds after Bailey had wrenched the embedded blade from his body.
When medics found him it was determined he was so badly wounded that they needed to perform open heart surgery at the scene. A total of seven killers were today locked up for his murder.
They had denied carrying out the vicious onslaught but were convicted by jurors in March. The killers were sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court. The youth defendants cannot be named for legal reasons due to their age.
