A young man who murdered a taxi driver issued a violent threat as he was dragged out of court after being sentenced to life in jail. Oliver Pugh, 20, was told he will serve at least 27 years behind bars for the unprovoked stabbing of Mohammed Istakhar in Solihull, West Midlands, last November.
The killer appeared stunned at the length of his sentence, shaking his head and muttering "27 years" as he was led out of the dock at Birmingham Crown Court this morning. At this point, someone in the public gallery shouted: "You're a murderer, you little [expletive]."
Pugh mumbled a threat in reply, saying: "I'll punch you". Moments before, the court had been told that the murderer "regretted" killing 44-year-old dad, Mr Istakhar, BirminghamLive reports.
Pugh had been picked up by the cabbie in Birmingham city centre in the early hours of November 29, having earlier boasted to a girl that he was going to "rob a taxi" that evening. He and co-defendant Luca De Fazio directed Mr Istakhar to the remote Braggs Farm Lane, with Pugh promising to get the fare from a caravan.
Instead, he returned with a knife and, despite De Fazio telling him "this is a good taxi driver, don't do anything" and Mr Istakhar pleading for his life to be spared as he had a wife and children, Pugh plunged the blade into his victim's chest.
Mr Istakhar managed to run away from the scene but Pugh chased him and stabbed him again before leaving him for dead. The dad was found face down and lifeless in the road by two members of the public.
Pugh, who drove off in the taxi driver's and crashed it through a hedge into a field, fled to Nottinghamshire and hid in a caravan for a week until he was arrested. Later that day, De Fazio attended a police station and told officers
