Since joining the royal family after marrying Prince William back in 2011, Kate Middleton has cemented herself as a global style icon. From her colourful power suits to her fashion forward flares, 41 year old Kate is known for her chic looks, with her outfits often selling out within days of being seen in public thanks to what’s been dubbed the ‘Kate effect’.
But despite her stylish credentials, it seems that the Princess of Wales’ personal style has changed in recent months after she took on a more senior role following the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II last September. Judging by recent appearances, mum-of-three Kate has taken fashion inspiration from the late monarch and has incorporated one of Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite accessories now that she is a Queen in waiting.
While Kate has previously been seen out and about carrying a trusty clutch bag in her hand, these days she is often seen holding various top handle bags instead - an item which was a staple of the Queen’s. In past months, Kate has been seen sporting various top handle bags by designers including Chanel, Grace Han and Mulberry.
Prior to that, during a recent engagement alongside US President Biden’s wife Jill in 2021, the Princess of Wales could be seen carrying a £225 Milly handbag by LK Bennett. The style of top handle bags were famously a favourite of Queen Elizabeth’s and the late monarch had over 200 bags by the brand Launer London, with some of her pieces coming in at around £2,000.
