Naman Ramachandran Sony’s “The Equalizer 3” has finally toppled the six-week reign of “Barbie” atop the U.K. and Ireland box office. Antoine Fuqua’s action thriller, headlined by Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning, debuted with £2.7 million ($3.4 million), per numbers from Comscore.

Barbie has been dethroned from the top of the UK and Ireland box office after six weeks.As reported by ScreenDaily, The Equalizer 3 starring Denzel Washington took the number one spot in its opening weekend (September 1-3), taking “just shy” of £2million.Barbie fell to second place with takings of £1.6million in its seventh weekend, a 16 per cent drop from the week prior. The third instalment in the Denzel Washington-led “Equalizer” franchise topped the domestic box office this weekend with $34.5 million according to studio estimates Sunday. By the end of the Monday holiday, Sony expects that total will rise to $42 million.

In its second weekend in theaters, MGM and director Emma Seligman’s teen comedy Bottoms broke into the top ten films for the weekend (no. 7) on 715 screens, a major North America expansion from a 10-theater opening last week. An estimated $3 million gross for the three days, and $3.6 million for the four-day Labor Day holiday (PSA $4,206 and $5,019 respectively) means the film will continue to expand, with about 1,200 screens planned for next weekend.
