Jacqueline Jossa was overcome with emotion as she said goodbye to co-star Shona McGogarty, who plays Whitney Dean. In the latest episode, Whitney Dean, played by Shona, made her exit from the BBC One soap after 16 years. It was announced last year that Shona had decided to leave the popular show.
Whitney, who first appeared on our screens back in 2008, has been involved in numerous dramatic storylines over the past 16 years. Most recently, she was devastated to find out that her partner and father of her new born baby Dolly, Zack Hudson, had cheated on her with her friend Lauren Branning. Following this heartbreak, Whitney chose to leave Walford for good on Thursday, taking newborn Dolly and foster daughter Britney Wainwright with her.
She revealed that she was moving to Wakefield to be closer to her brother Ryan Malloy. In emotional scenes at the end of the episode, Whitney, Dolly and Britney all left Walford for good as Julia's Theme played in the background. After the emotional episode, EastEnders' official Instagram account shared a photo of Shona surrounded by her co-stars, all smiling at the camera.
The caption read: "We're just gonna leave this one right here...
#EastEnders" accompanied by crying emojis. Jacqueline, who plays Lauren Branning, commented: "Sobbed", followed by "I am a broken woman!" and "loveeeeee you @shonabmx". Dean Gaffney, who portrayed Robbie Jackson from 1993 until 2019, responded with a heart emoji.
