Rishi Sunak made an appearance on Good Morning Britain on Thursday morning following the criticism of his spring statement. After the ITV show interviewed a couple who are struggling with the soaring costs amid the cost of living crisis, the Chancellor was hit with questions from presenters Ben Shephard and Ranvir Singh.
During the interview, the hosts highlighted the backlash that had come after Rishi Sunak's announcement yesterday, where he announced a 5p cut in fuel duty and an increase in the threshold at which people pay national insurance contributions.
But the Chancellor's TV appearance came with further fury from viewers who slammed Sunak for 'running away' from the questions being asked. Throughout the interview, Sunak complained of various 'sound difficulties', supposedly making him unable to hear the hosts' questions as well as multiple attempts to cut the interview short.

Early on in the interview, Ranvir Singh had complimented the Chancellor for the furlough scheme he implemented during the coronavirus pandemic, before saying "but now feel like we've got a Chancellor who is playing politics with their lives". But Sunak's response came with an apology saying that it is "hard to hear properly."
Elsewhere in the heated discussion, the Chancellor showed various attempts to end the interview early. Whilst Ben Shephard was in the middle of questioning him, Sunak began cutting the host off by saying "goodbye". Despite this, Ben continued to question him.
