Emmerdale viewers were left utterly baffled at the end of tonight's instalment, Thursday 30 November, as David Metcalfe (played by Matthew Wolfenden) finally left the village seemingly without his son Theo in tow. The character's departure had been teased for weeks, due to Matthew's sign-up in a pantomime over the Christmas season.
Yet as David finally decided to leave the village, leaving in his car to drive to London for an impromptu stay with Priya (Fiona Wade) and his nine year old daughter Amber, fans also noticed that there was no mention of his toddler, whom he had with ex-girlfriend Maya Stepney. While Theo generally stays off-screens since his birth, and the characters simply mention Theo from time to time, it seemed that bosses had forgotten to clarify whether the youngster would be staying with another family member instead.
What's more, as David sobbed and escaped the village in the darkness, there was no sign of his little boy or a baby car seat. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, viewers were puzzled by the storyline.
"Has David forgotten his other son? #emmerdale" one person asked. Another viewer wrote: "Help did David just leave Theo behind ? #Emmerdale," followed by: "Has David forgot he has a kid or? #Emmerdale" "Where’s the baby, #Emmerdale? Conveniently forgotten? Or is Theo a toddler now?" a fourth fan wondered.
While a fifth demanded: "Where's the child David had with Maya? Theo? Has he left him out back with the tomatoes? #emmerdale" "#emmerdale Has Theo just been airbrushed from David's life, is he leaving him to fend for himself, or has he disappeared into thin air" another viewer added, as more and more viewers queried why there had been no mention of the little boy. Others were frustrated
