Coronation Street fans immediately welcomed a new character with open arms as she swept onto the famous cobbles in Friday night's episode (August 5). When undertaker George Shuttleworth arrived for Mr Pugh’s funeral and revealed that he had taken girlfriend Eileen Grimshaw’s strong painkillers to ease his toothache, it was clear that he was as high as a kite.
His colleague Todd shoved George into one of the funeral cars as widow Mrs Pugh gave him the awkward third degree. But it was at that moment George’s sister Glenda arrived out of the blue and saved the day.
Clocking George asleep in the back of the funeral car, she quickly took charge of the proceedings. Later as Glenda, Todd and Sean Tully celebrated how well the funeral went following the wake in the Rovers Return, George sheepishly appeared.

He was thrilled to be reunited with his sister, who explained to her new pals that she works a performer on cruise ships. And it wasn't only George who was pleased to see her.
Fans of the soap are loving Glenda, played by actress and singer Jodie Prenger who shot to fame when she won the BBC Talent show I’d do Anything in 2008, going on to play Nancy in Oliver in the West End. They were in stitches as she was introduced to a stern-faced Eileen and told her she 'you smell like my nan.'
The Talk of the Street podcast @corriepodcast tweeted: "It's hard to imagine a new character in recent times we've fallen in love with any quicker than we have with Glenda Shuttleworth (approx 15 seconds)." @TeamColNolan said: "That was a fabulous debut from Jodes, love Glenda, fab bit of casting @itvcorrie."

It's amazing who you bump into on your holidays - even when you're a Coronation Street legend. And there was an unexpected reunion for two huge stars of the soap when their paths crossed at Paphos Airport in Cyprus.
Coronation Street star Chris Gascoyne delighted fans as he made a rare appearance alongside a few of his co-stars during an evening out in Greater Manchester. The actor, who is best known for playing Peter Barlow in the ITV soap, didn't appear to be present at the soap's summer party last month.
Glam Corrie star Ellie Leach wowed as she shared a collection of photos from a day out at the races. Ellie, who plays Faye Windass in the ITV soap, looked a world away from the cobbles in a sunshine yellow double breasted blazer and matching wide-legged trousers by Forever Unique.
Coronation Street fans were bowled over last week when Glenda Shuttleworth made her debut. Last Friday, viewers of the ITV soap were introduced to the sister of undertaker George Shuttleworth. She instantly made an impact on the cobbles, helping to save George's skin at work when he took too many strong painkillers.
Mild-mannered Speed Daal chef Stu Carpenter was revealed as a murderer in shock scenes on Friday night. Viewers were left reeling from the news and his horrified love interest Yasmeen Metcalfe told her granddaughter Alya she never wants to see Stu again.
Former Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has been flooded with compliments as she gave a glimpse into her glamorous day out at the races over the weekend. The actress spent the day on Saturday (August 6) at Haydock Park Races in Merseyside for the Betfred Rose Of Lancaster Stakes Ladies Day.
Charlotte Dawson wowed in a zesty orange outfit as she enjoyed a day out with her mum at Haydock Park Races. Mum-of-one Charlotte, the daughter of the late Manchester comedian Les Dawson, wore a bold wide-legged jumpsuit and matching hat for the Betfred Rose Of Lancaster Stakes Ladies Day as she delightedly posed alongside her equally stunning mum Tracy, 71, who also donned a fruity palette of oranges and pinks.
They looked a far cry from the Corrie cobbles as they reunited for a day at the races and Weatherfield's Faye Brookes and Lucy Fallon were all smiles as they posed with fellow favourites Charlotte Jordan and Ellie Leach. The Coronation Street ladies enjoyed a day out at Haydock Park Races in Merseyside with Real Housewives of Cheshire star Seema Malhotra's fashion brand Forever Unique.
It seems Coronation Street is the most romantic place to be next week as Sean Tully finds a new love interest. At number 11 Eileen Grimshaw guesses Sean is pining for Laurence, a handsome dentist he recently met at a wake.
Leyla Cavanagh 's struggle with cocaine appears to be edging closer and closer to devastating consequences. After agreeing to stash dealer Callum's drugs in her office, Leyla was horrified to find out they were stolen.
Coronation Street saw a former couple reunited during Monday night's episode (August 1) as Wendy Papadapoulos, nee Crozier, enjoyed a dinner date with her old flame Ken Barlow. Wendy, a former Weatherfield Council secretary, famously had an affair with Ken Barlow in 1989 leading him to divorce from his late wife Deirdre.
Emmerdale fans were once again shouting at their telly as Leyla Cavanagh's destructive behaviour continued. Viewers of the ITV soap know all about the wedding planner's drug addiction, even though she's not admitting she has a problem.
