The grey damp conditions overnight have cleared and it has been a bright and sunny start to the day across the region with temperatures pushing past 20C by 9am.
And the mercury is set to rise throughout the day. The Met Office says it will reach a balmy 27C in Manchester by this afternoon, remaining so until the early evening.

They may be some cloudy intervals and some light winds but it will be a day for hats and suncream for those venturing out. However, this is not likely to be repeated on Friday and into the weekend when forecasters say conditions will become 'changeable'
It will become cloudier this evening with temperatures dropping to early twenties. And it is set to remain much cooler, remaining at or just above the 20C mark across the weekend.
Friday is set to be dry. It will be a cloudy start to the day though some sunny intervals are expected later. Temperatures will however only peak at 23C in a marked contrast to today.
It will be cooler still on Saturday where temperatures will only reach between 19 and 20C. There is also a distinct possibility of some showers, both light and heavy, which are being forecast to move in from mid-morning. There is a likelihood of on/off downpours throughout the day until the evening.
