Sophie Winkleman and Lord Frederick Windsor, the only son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, tied the knot at Hampton Court Palace back on this day back in 2009.
The couple, who met on a night out in Soho, have now been married for 14 years and are celebrating their anniversary on September 12. At the time Sophie, 43, was gaining popularity for her role as Big Suze in Channel 4's Peep Show, while Lord Frederick is 53rd in line to the throne.
By virtue of her marriage, she became entitled to be styled as Lady Frederick Windsor, but continues to use her own name in her professional career. But despite their very different backgrounds, the pair looked happier than ever at their ceremony, which featured 400 guests including Princess Eugenie, the Duke and Duchess of Kent, Lady Annabel Goldsmith, actress Jane Asher, Lady Helen Taylor and singer Bryan Adams.
Claudia Winkleman, Sophie's half-sister, was also in attendance on the day.
The actress looked simply stunning in a £5,000 dress made by Anna Bystrova, who is a designer loved by her mother-in-law.
The pair chose the historic Hampton Court Palace as their wedding backdrop, a Grade I listed royal palace in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, which was one of Henry VIII's favourite residences. Years on from their lavish wedding, the pair are now proud parents to two daughters, nine-year-old Maud and Isabella, seven.
Princess Michael of Kent spoke candidly about her relationship with Sophie following the nuptials, saying: "Already she is like a daughter to us. "We are enchanted with Sophie." Speaking to The Times in 2020, Sophie also talked about the wonderful time she has shared with the Royal Family since becoming a member in 2009.

Peep Show could return when the characters are “old men” in their seventies. The actor, who played Jeremy in the Channel 4 sitcom, reaffirmed the idea in an interview with NME to mark the show’s 20th anniversary.“We’ve always said that it would be funny to go back and see them as old men,” Webb said. “Living in the same flat and having the same arguments… I think probably this side of, shall we say, 70?”His co-star David Mitchell, however, believes any future reunion should be a “totally separate thing”.“It’s nice that people still give a shit… I don’t want to tack anything onto the end of it,” Mitchell said.

Peep Show co-writer Sam Bain has revealed that they received offers to turn the hit Channel 4 sitcom into a play.Speaking exclusively to NME, Bain said that he and fellow co-writer Jesse Armstrong (Succession) had to reject the proposal because they couldn’t figure out how to make the show work on stage. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, Peep Show documented the increasingly tragic lives of bank manager Mark Corrigan (played by David Mitchell) and his layabout flatmate/ occasional musician Jeremy Usborne (played by Robert Webb). The iconic comedy was shot through a POV perspective with the actors performing to camera, while the characters’ internal thoughts were added as narration. This format proved to be revolutionary, but it was one Bain and Armstrong knew they wouldn’t be able to replicate on stage.“There was an offer to do a live Peep Show, a stage show, after the last series, which we did carefully consider because it was coming from some proper people,” said Bain.
Ricky Gervais was among those who managed to save Peep Show from cancellation in its early days. The cult sitcom, which starred David Mitchell and Robert Webb as dysfunctional housemates Mark and Jeremy, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this week.In a piece reflecting on the show’s legacy with The Guardian, script editor Iain Morris discussed how Channel 4 were not keen on the show in its infancy, and considered cancelling it.“The channel hated it because it wasn’t rating and they didn’t really understand it,” Morris explained. “I spent a lot of time defending it, probably to the detriment of my career.”Gervais, however, was one of the show’s big early supporters, and helped the network decide to keep it on air.“He kept talking about it.

The Simpsons‘ iconic Steamed Hams scene has been mashed up with audio from Peep Show — you can watch the end product below. The amusing mash up was first shared by a Peep Show Facebook fan page called DobbyClub06 back in 2018, but was recently reposted on their Instagram account. In the memorable Steamed Hams scene from The Simpsons, Principle Skinner invites Superintendent Chalmers over to his house for a roasted ham. However, after noticing that the food is burnt, he sneaks out the window to buy some Krusty burgers, which Chalmers refers to as steamed hams. The mashup in question simply replaces the scene’s audio with memorable Peep Show quotes from main characters Mark (David Mitchell) and Jeremy (Robert Webb). From “Four naans, Jeremy? In 2019, Australian documentary filmmaker Kitty Green made her first narrative movie, a piercing almost cinéma vérité-style movie focused on an office assistant in a Tribeca film company run by a not-so-thinly disguised Harvey Weinstein. The male culture there and the sexual acts of the boss made it almost a modern horror story at the height of the #MeToo movement. For Green’s second narrative film she has changed up the filmmaking style considerably, but with The Royal Hotel which premiered last week at Telluride and now premieres tonight at the Toronto Film Festival, she is taking an even deeper look at the dark side of men as seen through the female gaze in a broken down hotel bar in a desolate part of the Australian Outback.
