Adele Roberts is set to take to lace up her skates as one of the 12 celebrity contestants competing in this year's Dancing On Ice. Her debut skate on Sunday, 21 January will be one for the history books, as she'll be the first contestant to skate with a stoma bag, as she's vowed to “reclaim her body” after surviving colon cancer. She was diagnosed in October 2021, before undergoing chemotherapy and having her tumour removed.
Three years after her life-altering diagnosis, Adele, who first rose to fame in 2002 as a contestant on Big Brother 3, where she finished in seventh place, said: “I think it’s a privilege to be alive.
I understand that now. What a joy, what amazing problems to have that I might fall on the ice. I get that now.
“And so there’s no expectation from me. Just making the show is my prize. Anything from here is a bonus.” Here's a look inside her life off screen...
Radio 1 exit In June 2023, the BBC announced that Adele was leaving Radio One after eight years.
The presenter had hosted the Weekend Breakfast Show since 2020 after previously fronting the station's Early Morning Breakfast Show. The broadcaster said Adele would be leaving to pursue other projects, however, listeners would "continue to hear Adele's voice across the radio as she continues to be part of the BBC family". Cancer battle Adele was diagnosed with stage two bowel cancer in October 2021 and kept fans updated on her health journey as she was treated and had a stoma fitted.
Speaking about her diagnosis, she said: "It took me a while to pluck up the courage to call my GP at first. “My symptoms seemed like things I could explain away. I didn’t want to be a burden to the NHS and I was embarrassed.
