Congratulations are in order for Coronation Street actor Sam Aston and his wife Briony who welcomed their second child in May this year. The couple, who are also parents to 22 month old Sonny, exclusively revealed to OK! in December 2021 that they were expecting a baby girl. But now, in an interview with OK!, the doting parents have finally revealed the little one’s name - Daisy.
“We’ve always liked it,” explained Sam, who plays Chesney Brown on the cobbles. “It was one of the only names we both agreed on.” The pair, who married in a lavish ceremony in 2019, revealed that the name had always been on their radar after finding out the little one’s gender. “Once we knew we were having a girl, we kept going back to it, so then halfway through the pregnancy we were like, ‘Daisy it is!’ and I bought all the personalised stuff,” said Briony.
But in addition to being an adorable moniker, the sweet name has a sentimental meaning for Briony and Sam. “She’s Daisy Josephine. Josephine is a nod to Sam’s brother Joe and my grandad Joe,” added Briony.
“Daisy is also the French name for Marguerite and my mum’s mum is called Margaret, so it was a way to have both grandparents in there.” And according to baby name website The Bump, Daisy is also associated with cheerfulness and purity, making it perfect for the little one who was born in spring. “Daisy comes from the Old English word dægeseage which means ‘day's eye’,” the website states. “Much like the beloved bloom, it's a name that embraces the sweetest elements of daylight, unfurling itself to the sun's rays.” With its sweet meaning, it’s no surprise that Daisy is a popular name in the UK.
