Tanisha Gorey, who plays troubled teen Asha Alahan, first joined Coronation Street in December 2009 as Dev and Sunita Alahan's daughter. As an adorable six year old, Tanisha had never even taken an acting class before she popped up on the ITV show.Tanisha, whose real parents run a pub in Oldham, has now tackled some big storylines on the show, including issues such as skin-lightening and revenge porn. Now all these years later, the 19 year old explained to The Saddleworth Independent that she'd been doing child modelling at the time of the casting.

She told the Mirror last year: “I was six when they cast me and all they needed me to do was shout 'bye mum' and run up the stairs. When I got to 10 or 11 I was a bit worried whether or not I could do this thing.” Luckily she's been able to turn to Jimmi Harkishan, who plays Dev, for advice while on the show.
"He is like a father figure to me, he’s always been there. Everyone is so easy to work with," she said. Away from screens, Tanisha is dating Manchester student Lucas Whelan since 2020.
