Two 'inseparable' teenagers tragically died after their car crashed into a tree, an inquest has heard.
Riley Hedley, 17, and Michael 'Mikey' Easton, 16, died at the scene after the grey Vauxhall Vectra Mikey was driving smashed into the 'large tree' outside a Bristol Street Motors car dealership. ChronicleLive reports that the crash happened on the A196 near Coopies Lane, Morpeth, at around 12.40am on March 12 last year. Emergency services attended but the friends died at the scene.
For both boys, cause of death was due to multiple injuries related to the crash, which had seen the vehicle break into two. Coroner Andrew Hetherington, Senior Coroner for North Northumberland and Acting Senior Coroner for South Northumberland, ruled the friends died as a result of multiple injuries due to a road traffic collision.
The families of the teenagers previously paid tribute to their beloved boys at the time of the incident. They were described as "inseparable" friends who were so close they "could have been brothers" after growing up together.
Releasing a joint statement in memory of the best friends following their deaths, the families said: "We are heartbroken beyond words. Both our families have had their worlds turned upside down.
"Riley and Mikey were inseparable. Two lads who grew up together and were so close - they could have been brothers. They were a fun-loving duo that lit up every room.
"No news has ever devastated us more. Our lives will be changed forever and there will never be a day that goes by that we won't miss them with all our hearts."
