Box Office: ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ Scores Franchise-Best $53 Million Debut, Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon’ Misfires With $11 Million

Rebecca Rubin Senior Film and Media Reporter “A Quiet Place: Day One” is making noise at the box office, collecting a roaring $53 million in its domestic opening weekend. It added $45.5 million internationally for a global tally of $98.5 million Those ticket sales are especially impressive because spinoff stories usually don’t bring in as much business as direct sequels. Yet “A Quiet Place: Day One” — a prequel story in Paramount’s post-apocalyptic horror series — landed the biggest debut in the franchise, exceeding the original 2018 “A Quiet Place,” ($50 million to start) and the 2021 sequel, “A Quiet Place Part II” (a $48 million debut during COVID).

Former ‘Late Late Show’ Head Writer Ian Karmel Talks Losing 200 Pounds in New Memoir and Writing Jokes for Ellen’s Farewell Tour

Lexi Carson Ian Karmel, comedian and Emmy-winning former co-head writer for “The Late Late Show With James Corden,” describes his journey from childhood to working through internal struggles that led him to drop 200 pounds in his recent memoir “T-Shirt Swim Club: Stories from Being Fat in a World of Thin People.” The cover of the book echoes the title, portraying a kid at the beach. Karmel says he was inspired to use that image because he “thought that anyone who was a fat kid would know that feeling.” He explains, “When you go to the pool, and all of a sudden your big fat body is hanging out there and you’re like, ‘OK, I know how I’ll fix that. I’ll put on a T-shirt,’ which immediately gets wet, and clings to every curve of your torso.

New State Pension ‘Triple Lock Plus’ will not increase monthly payments for nearly half a million older people

The Conservative Party manifesto confirms that a General Election win on July 4 will see the introduction of the ‘Triple Lock Plus’, a new measure that will ensure the Personal Allowance - which has been frozen at £12,570 since April 2021 - rise in-line each year with the Triple Lock. This guarantee would mean that the Personal Allowance is always higher than the maximum rate of the New State Pension, which is now worth £11,502 annually.
