At the age of just 27, Mitchell Gowing's life had changed in ways he never could have imagined. He'd gone from working as a GMP dispatch officer, to being treated in hospital for a life-threatening illness.
Mitch, who lives in Tottington, Bury, had been experiencing stomach problems for months and was being treated for gastric issues by his GP. However, between last September and December he lost three stone in weight and was eventually sent for a scan of his stomach at the start of this year.

His family initially feared he might have had a stroke, but a brain scan at A&E came back clear for Mitch. His terrified parents Andrea and Neil pushed for the result of the stomach scan which was not due back for weeks - and that scan revealed a huge tumour in Mitch’s stomach.

The consultant also suggested the drop in Mitch’s face could have been caused by the pressure of the tumour in the stomach pressing on other nerve endings around the body.
